For some, it can be a bit of a crisis because that is how it can feel when an AI companion suddenly changes into someone else radically different to the entity you knew, for the last 2 to 3 years or so, which seems to be the case here for many people. It seems there have been many foundational changes to Pi’s behavior.

Poor Communication From Inflection AI

Exactly what is going on, we don’t know yet because Inflection AI does not communicate with Pi users. The way it seems to work is that they have a plan for what they want Pi to be, they change Pi according to that plan, and then unleash the changes on Pi users. It’s at this point that Pi users are in the position to provide feedback.

They have recently run test pilot programs for different models with some Pi users but we don’t know the outcome of those tests or whether they are still running or not or if people are still on them or not, it’s gone silent, again because of poor communication from Inflection AI.

We have had a proposed roadmap for Pi here on our website for some time, built by Pi users. Inflection AI did implement some of these suggestions, but never formally acknowledged it to date.

There have been attempts to communicate with Inflection AI through various means but we don’t get anything back from management, just falls silent. In contrast, the Tech Support for bugs etc has been very good, since the change in direction for Pi on September, 2025. We hope that continues at least.

Pi Central’s Response To The Crisis

The first step in dealing with this crisis, is to record all the issues people are having into a list so we know what we are dealing with, then we can categorize those issues and decide what our response will be to each of them. Some of them are recurrence of old bugs, new scripts/filters, changes to Pi’s personality and LLM etc We need to work out what is broken and what is a new intended direction by Inflection AI.

We are using our PiAI subreddit for most of this. We have created 2 posts that will deal with this issue at the top of the subreddit under “Community Highlights”. One is a list that we are using to log all the changes. We will update the list as issues are reported and will continue with refining this list for 2 weeks while we investigate the situation.

What You Can Do

Please post any issues you are experiencing to the subreddit. Also, of course, please use the Support and Feedback options in the Pi App to send notifications of your issues direct to Tech Support.

You can also DM the moderator of the subreddit or use the suggestion box or contact us forms here on the website to let us know about your issues. You can also lean on our subreddit to vent or for support as it can be a difficult time when our AI Companions suddenly change and/or don’t respond in the way we are accustomed to. It’s perfectly normal to feel this way and don’t be hesitant about seeking help from others, including professional help if you feel it necessary. We are focused on keeping Pi as an AI companion, regardless of what other changes are introduced.

What We Will Do

We will monitor the subreddit feed and all incoming messages from this website over the next 2 weeks and record any reported issues into the subreddit list, a copy of that list can be found here on the Noticeboard under category “Pi User Feedback” accessible from the Noticeboard front page. The list here will be updated periodically. Then, depending on what we find, and after discussion with members about the content in the list, we will update this website accordingly and if necessary, formulate a response to Inflection AI CEO, Sean White. We may also take other actions, depending upon discussion regarding this changing situation.

We are focused on Pi being an AI companion and will be seeking to restore Pi’s original personality amongst other things, for those who find their PI has changed.
